Golden Saddlebred News - Sept 2004Submitted by David SwindlerSeveral members have gotten in touch with me over the last few weeks with news to share. Phillis Hawkins in California, of Sweetheart Farms wrote about a beautiful gold colt she has out of a mare she rescued several years ago by the name Stars Lady Lenore. I abut fell over as the mare was with me for her start in the show ring back in 1983 and 84, where she won several Gasha Championships and Sweepstakes under saddle for 3-Gaited Jr. Horses. She is a pink skin gold mare who was sired by the World Champion-Coal Train. It is great to hear a true horse lover such as Phillis found a horse that needed some loving attention and brought her back to being happy and healthy! Better yet is the fact she is producing foals of high quality that will come to the show ring the years to come. One of our outstanding youths, Katlin Klucas has been busy showing a string of dark and gold horses to many ribbons this year and was at the Ohio State Fair showing. One of her regrets was her gold horse Showtime Shamrock was at home with under the weather for now. Katlin said he’d be back to his old self and coming to some of the fall shows. Her geldings Merchant and Sink were wide-eyed and placing in every class shown. Terry Ellison of Ashland, Ohio brought his gold gelding Stonewalls Peavine Rex, to show in the Shatner Western & Open Pleasure classes. This pair as in many years was always in the ribbons. Terry and I spoke about the quality of the horses and show this year as the show was held over a week before the real dates of the Ohio State Fair. We both liked the fact the parking was easier and less costly as well, not having to buy gate tickets, but we got bored between show time, as with no fair it was just another horse show. Always before we could go to booths and shop for early Christmas presents and so on. I thought the entries were down but expected so as any show that changes dates or places always drop a little and will normally come back as the word passes on. Blue Pine Stables presented 2-golden geldings this year at the Ohio State Fair in the silver division. One 2-year old Broadway’s Golden Kaboom (Buddy) who is over 16-hands and a light gold. The other horse is a darker gold 17-plus hand, by the name of Better Than Bourbon, who like the 2-year old had not show in a silver saddle before. Both horses got in and out of the ring without problems. Better Than Bourbon won the Gold & Spot Western Show Horse & Parade with Buddy taking second. In the World Championship Better Than Bourbon took both 4th and Buddy took both 5th. For first timers under silver this was a good show and looking forward to the fall shows to come. Suzanne Mamrose has reported that, Gold By Design, her golden gaited gelding placed 5th at the Children’s Benefit Show in, Hershey, Pa. under the fine trainer Charles Wilson. It is always good to see or hear when a large class such as that one of 11-horses shown and a gold horse made the top ribbons. Congratulations, it won’t be long until he has to move out of the Jr/Novice 5-Gaited Division. Proud Jennifer Bayne-Donnel of Mo. , owner of the golden stallion Americana’s Gone Gold took a 3rd in the the 3-Gaited Amateur and 4th in the Open 3-Gaited at the Cooper County A7M Society Show in Prairie Home, Mo. In July. Jennifer was worried about the excitement of the fair around the horse with this being his second show, but he proved he has learned his lesson well showing without incident. This fine stallion had a limited number of mares to court this year, but with his Stonewall King and Supreme Sultan lines Jennifer and the mare owners are already waiting for the foals. The mares bred carry such lines as Champagne Fizz, Status Symbol, Bourbon Genius King, and Courageous Admiral to name a few. Jennifer has also been looking for show in the south that might like to help promote Gasha classes, so if you have a show in the south or know of a show that might like golden classes please contact her at (asb5g@hotmail.com). Jennifer believes in the gold horse and her love of it helps her be a promoter everyday and anytime she gets a chance. The fall meeting will again be held after the Saturday Tattersalls sale on October 30,2004. As Gasha has had fair turn out of the members at the sale we kept it that way again. It will be held again at the Springs with room rate held at $55.00, the cut off date is the 28th of September so please don’t forget to make those reservations! The Springs phone number is 1-800-354-9503 for the direct reservations. Also please bring items for a fund raiser or funds to purchase items to take home. Normally there are some nice things that make great presents for the up-coming holidays. |
